Parish Council News
Dial-a-Ride : Following consultation with parishioners it has been agreed to alter the Thursday Dial-a-Ride service to Ely. With effect from 1st July the service will run on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of the month. With the return journey on the 1st Thursday leaving Ely at 1.30pm and on the 3rd Thursday leaving Ely at 12.30pm. If you would like to make further comments/suggestions which you feel would help to improve the service then please let the Clerk of the Council know your thoughts.
Council Vacancies: For various reasons we now have three vacancies on the Parish Council. Jackie Peavot has now married and left the village, Beryl Brown and Don Harrison have both resigned for personal reasons,. We thank all three for the time and commitment they have given to the village during there time as Councillors. We are now in the first stages of the official process to fill the vacancies. If an election is not called for in fourteen working days the vacancies will be advertised as casual vacancies and will be filled by co-option. If anyone out there is interested in becoming a Councillor please feel free to contact us and we will be happy to talk you through what is involved.
Youth Shelter : The Youth Shelter has now been installed on the Recreation Ground adjacent to the skate park. Several different groups of people appear to be making use of the facility including mothers watching their children at play, youth groups etc. The shelter will be regularly monitored by both the police and the youth workers.
Open Meeting : The open meeting took place on Monday 28th June at 7.30pm in the Gardiner Memorial Hall to discuss the proposed development of affordable housing on land to the rear of Appletree Grove/ Chestnut Rise. The meeting was well attended and following lengthy discussion it was felt that until new information was to hand no further decision could be made on this proposal.
Tetra Bank - There is now a tetra bank sited at Mingay Park, Reach Road (the former D S Smith Site). Whilst we realise that t his is not the idea site for the bank as it is a long way out from the centre of the village this was the only suitable site due to the size of the new banks.
PCSO - As you are all probably aware PCSO Kat Deronal and PCSO Alistair McKenzie are both moving on. Kat has been in the village for about two and a half years and Alistair for around a year. We wish them both well in their move to back into Ely City and thank them for the effort that they have put into making Burwell a safer place to live. |
