Public Statement to Burwell Residents:
Burwell Parish Council is aware of a series of recent incidents of vandalism, anti social behaviour and intimidation affecting multiple Parish Council properties, including the halls, recreational grounds, public toilets and green spaces.
These incidents have included:
- Damage to buildings, gates and fixtures
- Anti social behaviour in and around public facilities
- Intimidating and abusive behaviour towards residents and Parish Council staff
All known incidents have been reported to the police, and the Parish Council is working closely with the police and relevant authorities to support their investigations. CCTV footage and witness accounts have been provided where available, and further preventative and enforcement options are being actively explored to protect Parish Council property and the wider community. We understand how concerning this behaviour is and want to reassure residents that the Parish Council is taking this matter very seriously. The safety of residents, visitors and staff is a priority.
How Residents Can Help
We strongly encourage residents to:
- Report all incidents directly to the police, even if they seem minor
- Use 999 if there is an immediate danger or threat
- Use 101 or the online reporting system for non urgent incidents
- Where safe to do so, make notes of times, locations and descriptions, as this information can help build an accurate picture
Please note that incidents discussed on social media still need to be reported to the police to ensure they are formally logged and investigated.
Thank you to those who have already reported incidents and offered information. Your cooperation is essential in helping us address this situation effectively.
If you have concerns relating specifically to Parish Council property, please contact the Parish Office in addition to reporting to the police.
