BURWELL SAFETY CAMPAIGN AND LATEST LOCAL HIGHWAYS IMPROVEMENT SCHEME APPLICATION

LATEST LOCAL HIGHWAYS IMPROVEMENT SCHEME APPLICAITON

The Parish Council has submitted an application for consideration to the Local Highways Improvement Scheme 2021/2022 to reduce the speed of vehicles coming in to Burwell from the three main entrances to the village, Swaffham Road, Ness Road and Newmarket Road.

If successful, buffer zones reducing traffic speed to a maximum of 40 miles per hour will be introduced prior to the 30 mile per hour limit at the start of the village.

The outcome of the application should be known by early summer 2021.

SAFETY CAMPAIGN

In 2018 the Burwell Parish Councils' Safety Group carried out a village wide traffic survey, asking residents about their concerns and thoughts on road safety within the village. Speed, quantity, and parking were some of the concerns raised. The Safety Group proposed that as a result of the survey, a year long Safety Campaign should take place within the village to help address some of these issues. The Campaign was initially due to be launched at the Burwell Carnival in 2020, but due to the pandemic could not go ahead.

It is hoped that the Safety Campaign will be now launched in 2022.
