Burwell 20 mph Speed Restriction

Published: 12 Apr 24

Following further discussions with Cambridgeshire County Council Highways the Parish Council has requested certain clarifications of the original proposal and is considering possible alternatives. It is not expected that these clarifications will be available until the end of April, in time for our Annual Parish Meeting on May 21st, 7pm at the Gardiner Memorial Hall, where full plans/proposals would be available to view and discuss with Councillors and Highways. This, in addition to any Statutory Consultation, demonstrates the Parish Council's intention to continue to engage fully with the community on this issue before moving forward. As soon as the revised plans and proposals are received, it is our intention to make these available to the community as per above. In addition we intend to hold a number of information sessions, and to publish this information at the Jubilee Reading Room and other venues. In order to make this information fully accessible it is our intention to have the Jubilee Reading Room open during specified evening times during which Parish Councillors will be available to discuss any views and concerns on the proposal. In order that we can continue to jointly establish the community's wishes, we will continue to liaise and work with our local community and Highways Department to establish a consensus of opinion for Safety in Burwell. New Tree Planted on Pound Hill

New Tree Planted on Pound Hill

Published: 1 Dec 23

Report from Geraldine Tate, secretary of Burwell Belles WI. "The Burwell Belles WI and Manchetts of Burwell have jointly bought a new tree for the spot outside the village post office where sadly the tree we planted in the 1960s recently had to be cut down because of disease. "It was much missed by the village, especially because it had such beautiful blossoms so we set out to replace it with another tree that will flower in the spring. We were directed to buy a crab apple by local firm Barchams, who said it would be suited to the soil here. We are very grateful to Mandy and Sean Manchett for their donation of £200 towards the tree, to which we added another £200 and we hope the new tree will bring pleasure to the village for years to come."
