Helium-filled Balloons and Lanterns

Published: 10 May 2021

At the Parish Council meeting held on 10th November 2020, the Council agreed to sign up to the East Cambridgeshire District Council helium balloons and sky lanterns charter. Balloons and sky lanterns pose a risk to buildings, dry standing crops, forestry, hay and straw stacks as well as habitats. Also, once the balloons and sky lanterns come to the end of their use, they leave behind litter. The Parish Council in accordance with the charter has from 10th November 2020 banned the release of helium balloons and sky lanterns from all council owned land including the Recreation Ground, Jubilee Green, Spring Close, Pauline's Swamp, Priory Meadow and the grounds of the Cemetery, Mandeville Hall and Gardiner Memorial Hall.
