The creation of a safe cycleway/walkway between Burwell and Exning has been a priority for the Parish Council for many years. Since 2018 the Council has been working with Exning Parish Council, West Suffolk Council, Suffolk County Council, East Cambridgeshire District Council and Cambridgeshire County Council to move this project forward. Suffolk County Council agreed to lead the project.

The project will be funded through Section 106 Agreements for the proposed Newmarket Road Development and the proposed development off Burwell Road in Exning.

Surveys have been carried out on both sides of the road to discover which is the best option, with the South side being recommended. These surveys have included land ownership, underground utilities, soil types and other obstacles.

The application for the proposed development in Exning now has planning consent and the Section 106 Agreements which will include the construction of the cycleway and funding. For both developments funding will have any agreed point when funding for the cycleway is released. This is generally based on a certain number of properties being occupied. Once funding has been released by both developments the project can move forward.
