Gardiner Memorial Hall Refurbishment Update

Published: 10 February 2022

Work started on the Gardiner Memorial Hall Refurbishment on the 11th October 2021. Cadman Construction Limited have been working on the first phases which includes installing new toilets, kitchen, air source heat pump, closed in storage area, new windows, extension to the stage, chair lift between the two levels of the building, audio visual equipment, and full insulation of the building, bringing the hall in to the 21st century and making it sustainable for many years to come.

Funding for the project has been secured from the following funders, with the balance for the initial phases being funded by the Parish Council using the Council’s proportion of CIL funding paid by developers. Our thanks go to all our funders below:

East Cambridgeshire District Council (CIL Regulation 123 Funding)

Cambridgeshire County Council (Community Capital Grant)

The Amey Community Fund

We also thank the following Burwell businesses and organisations for their kind donations

Arbus, Manchetts Ltd (Recovery), Manchetts Burwell Ltd and Hastoe Housing

Work on site for the first phases of the refurbishment is currently around 6 weeks behind the original schedule, with completion of the first phases now expected to be completed at the beginning of May 2022. The final stage of the refurbishment will include an extension and improvements to the car park, including an electrical vehicle charging point. Funding for the final stage has yet to be secured but we hope to be in a position to start work on the extension at some point in the next few years.

Whilst work on site is in progress for all phases, the entire site, including the access to Mill Lane will be closed. Please accept our apologies for any inconvenience that this may cause.
